Chateau Margaux has stood among Bordeaux's most storied estates since the 1855 classification, when it was named a Premier Grand Cru, one of just four properties to receive that top distinction. The Mentzelopoulos family has owned the estate since 1977, with Corinne Mentzelopoulos now overseeing operations her father began. The 2010 vintage was crafted under longtime estate director Paul Pontallier, widely regarded as one of his finest achievements during three decades at the helm.

The 2010 growing season combined a dry June with unusually cool summer temperatures, giving the grapes remarkable aromatic intensity and higher than average acidity despite ripe alcohol levels. Only thirty-eight percent of the harvest was selected for the grand vin, one of the lowest yields on record for the estate. The final blend leans heavily on Cabernet Sauvignon, rounded out with small proportions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This ex-chateau bottle has remained in Margaux's own cellars since release, guaranteeing ideal storage and provenance.

The 2010 shows a deep bouquet of black fruit, crushed violets, graphite and cedar, with firm, silky tannins and bright acidity carrying through a long finish. Pair it with roast lamb, venison or aged, nutty cheeses.
