2015 Pol Roger - Brut Blanc de Blanc (750ml)
Pol Roger was founded in 1849 by an eighteen-year-old wine merchant of the same name, who began the house in Aÿ before relocating to Épernay soon after. Still family-owned after six generations, Pol Roger is among the last major Champagne houses to perform riddling entirely by hand. The estate remains closely tied to Winston Churchill, who counted it among his favorite Champagnes and lent his name to the house's celebrated prestige cuvée.
This Blanc de Blancs is made entirely from Chardonnay grown across five Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oiry, and Oger. The 2015 vintage rested on its lees for six years before disgorgement in late 2021, a slow approach that builds complexity and finesse. Dosage was set at seven grams per liter, with riddling still carried out by hand in the house's deep cellars.
The wine pours pale gold with faint green tints beneath a fine, persistent stream of bubbles. Aromas of lemon zest, orchard fruit, and white flowers lead into notes of warm biscuit and toasted hazelnut, while the palate turns buttery and layered, closing on a long, chalky finish. Serve alongside fresh oysters, grilled sole, or a triple cream cheese.
