2016 Pol Roger - Brut Blanc de Blancs (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Founded in 1849, Champagne Pol Roger remains one of the few grande marque houses still owned and run by the founding family, a legacy perhaps best known through its association with Winston Churchill, who counted it among his favorites. This vintage Blanc de Blancs is crafted entirely from Chardonnay sourced from grand cru villages along the Côte des Blancs, including Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, Oger, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
Production follows a meticulous process: the must undergoes two settlings before a slow, cool fermentation in stainless steel, with each variety and village kept separate ahead of blending. Full malolactic fermentation follows, and the secondary fermentation takes place in bottle within Pol Roger's deep, cool cellars, over thirty meters below the streets of Épernay, where the wine is riddled by hand rather than mechanically, a rare practice in Champagne today.
In the glass, the 2016 shows a crystal-clear, silvery hue with delicate bubbles. The nose opens shyly before revealing chalk, flint, white flowers, yellow cherries, and dried nuts, evolving with air into citrus, exotic fruit, and cocoa butter. On the palate, it is crisp, fresh, and finely mineral, with a texture that is delicate yet almost crunchy.
