Marchesi Fumanelli is one of Valpolicella's oldest family estates, with roots tracing back to 1470 and 28 generations of continuous winemaking on the same property. The family farms 78 acres entirely of estate-grown fruit within the walled Squarano property, located just outside Verona in the heart of Valpolicella Classico. Under winemaker Flavio Peroni, the estate blends traditional methods with modern technique, aiming for wines that speak clearly of their hilltop terroir among cherry orchards and cypress trees.

This Amarone is a blend of Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, hand harvested from vines ranging from young Guyot-trained plots to pergola vines thirty to forty years old on the Squarano estate. After selection, the grapes rest on traditional wooden racks for about 120 days, drying and concentrating their sugars and flavors before pressing. The wine then ages for thirty months in French oak tonneaux, followed by an additional eight months in bottle before release.

The finished wine pours a deep garnet red and opens with mature cherry, wild berry, cinnamon, tobacco, and chocolate on the nose. On the palate it is rich, rounded, and velvety, full-bodied with firm, structured tannins and a long, warm finish. It suits braised meats, game, aged cheeses, or rich risottos.
