2017 Marc Hebrart - Champagne Brut Special Club (1.5L)
Based in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ on the Marne, Champagne Marc Hébrart was started by Marc Hébrart in the early 1960s, and the family joined the Club Trésors de Champagne in 1985. Since 1997 his son Jean-Paul has guided the estate, working to add vineyards each year and harvesting, pressing, and vinifying parcels separately across Premier Cru and Grand Cru villages. Most cuvées are made in stainless steel, and about nine in ten bottles are sold abroad.
The 2017 Special Club is a vintage Champagne made only from the estate’s own grapes, in keeping with the rules of the Club Trésors, which require a minimum of 36 months on the lees and approval in two blind tastings. This cuvée is 100 percent Chardonnay, drawn half from Grand Cru sites in Oiry, Chouilly, and Avize and half from Premier Cru Dizy. It was vinified in stainless steel with malolactic fermentation, then aged on its lees for more than three years.
Soft, silky contours and lifted aromatics give this Champagne a classy, understated character, with notes of ripe apple, nuts, and brioche. The mousse is exceptionally fine, the acidity fresh, and the finish long, dry, and beautifully balanced.
