Fermented to completion then halted with grape spirit, this 2017 Vintage Port from Rozès captures the concentrated essence of a classic Douro vintage. Blending Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional with a meaningful portion of Sousão, the wine undergoes extended skin maceration in traditional stone lagares and stainless steel vats. Sourced across all three recognized sub-regions of the Douro, the harvest delivers layered complexity before resting briefly in stainless steel. This neutral vessel choice protects vibrant fruit compounds and structural tannins, establishing a clean trajectory for decades of slow bottle development.

Expect a deep, saturated crimson pour that opens with balsamic and herbal complexity alongside ripe black fruit and warm spices. The palate delivers full body and serious structure, anchored by firm, rounded tannins that stretch out into an elegant, lingering finish. Built for extended cellaring, this port rewards patience until it reaches peak maturity. When ready to enjoy, decant 30 to 60 minutes prior to service to loosen the dense fruit and soften the edges. Pair with a slow-cooked beef preparation or a dense dark chocolate torte to harmonize the wine’s natural sweetness against savory richness and bitter cocoa notes.

95+ Points
"The 2017 Vintage Port is a 40/35 blend of Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional with 15% Sousão, plus miscellaneous others, unoaked and coming in with 103 grams of residual sugar. When seen before, this was very good but too tight. It is still too tight, but it has become far more expressive. The aromatics in particular are exceptional now, throwing off some violets and herbs. It's delicious too. It adds sensual texture. The more I taste this, the more I have to say that I grievously underestimated it early on. Mea culpa. It seems increasingly brilliant. It also seems likely to improve much more. It shows old-school power and has plenty of room to improve."
