Col d'Orcia traces its origins back to the second half of the seventeenth century, making it one of the founding estates of Montalcino. The property has been owned by the Marone Cinzano family since 1973, and today it sits on the southern slope of the appellation, below the hamlet of Sant'Angelo in Colle. With 142 hectares of vineyard farmed organically, Col d'Orcia is the largest certified organic wine estate in all of Tuscany and ranks among the largest holders of Brunello vineyard land in the region.

This Brunello is made entirely from Sangiovese, hand harvested from vineyards facing south toward the Orcia river, where the surrounding hills offer shelter from Monte Amiata's weather while sea breezes keep a moderating influence. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, staying true to the traditional method of aging in large Slavonian oak barrels for three years, followed by a further year of rest in bottle before release, well beyond the appellation's required minimum.

The wine shows a deep ruby red color with garnet reflections, opening to aromas of black cherry and jam layered with spice, vanilla, and dried rose petal. On the palate it is warm and generous, with ripe, well-managed tannins and excellent structure carrying through to a long, persistent finish. It pairs beautifully with game, roasted red meats, and aged Tuscan cheeses.

94 Points
"This promising Brunello is hallmarked by pretty cherry, strawberry, currant and floral aromas and flavors. Starts out elegant and lacy, then the dense matrix of tannins emerges, giving different character to the long finish. Reveals wild herb and mineral notes that add depth. Best from 2025 through 2043. 16,600 cases made, 3,000 cases imported."
