2018 Domaine Meo-Camuzet - Volnay (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]

Domaine Méo-Camuzet is based in Vosne-Romanée, built from parcels assembled in the early twentieth century by Etienne Camuzet, a local Côte-d'Or politician who secured some of the region's most coveted vineyard holdings. Ownership passed through his family to Jean Méo, and since 1989 his son Jean-Nicolas Méo has directed the estate with an emphasis on structure, finesse, and concentration, drawing on techniques refined alongside the legendary winemaker Henri Jayer that still shape the domaine's approach today.

While Méo-Camuzet is best known for its grand cru and premier cru holdings closer to home, this village-level Volnay reflects the same meticulous approach applied across the range. Grapes are hand-sorted and largely destemmed before fermentation, then aged in oak barrels, with village bottlings typically seeing a lighter touch of new wood than the domaine's grander wines. Bottling takes place at the estate with minimal handling, preserving freshness and a clear sense of place.

The wine pours a translucent, rose petal hue and opens with raspberry, violet, and carnation, joined by wisps of forest floor and tobacco. On the palate, rose returns alongside light cedar, dried raspberry, and tarragon, framed by bright, pointed acidity with hints of cranberry and pepper. It shows youthful tension now but has the underlying material to open into real depth with time.
