Ferrer Bobet was founded by Sergi Ferrer-Salat and winemaker Raül Bobet, a partnership built around a shared vision for elevating Priorat's old-vine Carignan into wines of real finesse rather than sheer power. The estate farms strictly organically, ruling out insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides across its steep slate hillsides, and has become one of the region's most respected names for precision winemaking.

Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles draws mainly on century-old Carignan vines, with a small portion of Garnacha, grown on llicorella, the slate-rich soil found only in Priorat's finest sites, at some of the appellation's coolest, steepest, and highest elevations. Grapes are hand harvested into small bins, sorted berry by berry on a double sorting table, and moved by gravity into fermentation. The 2018 was aged around fifteen months in French oak barriques before bottling.

This vintage shows a deep ruby color with garnet reflections, and a nose of wild blackberry, dark plum, and dried violet layered with graphite, tobacco leaf, and baking spice. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with firm yet polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish. It pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, aged cheeses, or braised game.

93 Points
"I found the 2018 Vinyes Velles to be quite ripe with notes of prunes and decayed violets, with 14.5% alcohol and a low pH, so the nose seems overripe but the palate feels fresher. It's 84% Cariñena and 16% Garnacha matured in 225-liter oak barrels for 15 months. Ripe and generously oaked. 23,920 bottles and 501 magnums. It was bottled in July 2020."
