2019 Bouchard Pere & Fils - Nuits St. Georges Cailles (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy's historic wine houses, founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard. For nearly three centuries the family has focused on wines that reflect the region's distinct terroirs. Les Cailles is a Domaine bottling, made from vineyard land the house owns itself.
Les Cailles is a Premier Cru climat in the southern section of Nuits-Saint-Georges, the most southerly appellation of the Côte de Nuits and a source of structured, age-worthy Pinot Noir. Bouchard owns just over one hectare of the site. The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates and carefully sorted, with about one-third of the clusters left whole. Fermentation in small vessels includes maceration of roughly two to three weeks. The wine then matures in French oak, with about half of the wood new.
Dark berry fruit leads the nose, with sweet berries and plums, raw cocoa, hazelnut, and loamy earth behind a brambly edge. The palate is medium to full-bodied, plump and layered, with a bright, fleshy feel and polished tannins. A savory finish rounds out a wine that is approachable now and gains roundness with time in bottle.
