The approachable, benchmark expression from one of coastal Tuscany's most celebrated estates — and one of the smartest buys in Italian wine. Named after the farmhouse on a hill called "Le Tassinaie" — meaning "the place of the stones" — Tassinaia has been produced since 1992 as a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, sourced from stone-rich, fossil-laden soils at 100–300 meters elevation with a south/southwest exposure on the Tuscan coast. Aged 16 months in second and third-use French oak tonneaux by variety before blending, then rested a further 12 months in bottle before release. Vivid and inviting in the glass, with aromas of dark currant, lavender, grilled herbs, and a whisper of tar, leading to a medium-bodied palate of bright red and dark fruit, fine tannins, and a fresh, clean finish of real elegance and length. The more accessible sibling to the estate's legendary Lupicaia — and a wine that consistently overdelivers.

91 Points
"This is a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that was first produced in 1992. The Castello del Terriccio 2019 Tassinaia hits a very attractive price point and offers lots of dark fruit concentration and richness along the way. Grilled herb, candied watermelon, tar and spice appear on the nose. The wine travels over the palate with some sharpness, good freshness and overall accessibility."
