2019 Domaine de Montille - Vosne Romanee Malconsorts Christiane (750ml)

Domaine de Montille is headquartered in Volnay, where Hubert de Montille built the family's reputation from the 1947 vintage onward before handing full control to his son Etienne in 1995. Etienne and his wife Alix have since expanded the estate considerably, adding parcels across both the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits and, in 2017, taking over production at the historic Château de Puligny-Montrachet. Throughout this growth the domaine has held to organic and biodynamic farming, seeking wines defined by precision and site expression rather than raw power.

Aux Malconsorts is a premier cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanée, and the Christiane bottling comes from a small, 0.49-hectare parcel set apart from the main Malconsorts block, across a dividing path and bordered by the original section of La Tâche. The cuvée is named for Christiane de Montille, Hubert's wife and mother of Alix and Etienne, who passed away in 2008. This 2019 was fermented with the full cluster and aged with a slightly higher share of new oak than the domaine's standard Malconsorts.

The wine pours a deep, dark purple and offers ripe blackberry, bilberry, and black cherry fruit, layered with violet, clove, and an earthy, savory undertone. The palate is rounded and smooth on entry, with real grip and freshness carrying into a long, powerful finish typical of this celebrated site.
