Jean-Marc Boillot founded his domaine in 1985 after years spent working alongside his grandfather, Henri Boillot, and later as winemaker for Olivier Leflaive. His maternal line brought further prestige to the estate: his grandmother was a daughter of Étienne Sauzet, and Jean-Marc inherited parcels from that side of the family in 1988 and 1991. Though based on the outskirts of Pommard and perhaps best known for Puligny-Montrachet from vineyards climbing the slope toward Meursault, the domaine also holds vines in Volnay, Pommard, the Mâconnais, the Languedoc, and the Côte Chalonnaise. Jean-Marc has since retired, and the estate has been run since 2016 by his daughter, Lydie, and her husband, François Alzingre.

This Montagny comes from premier cru vineyards in the Côte Chalonnaise, an appellation built entirely around Chardonnay and often overlooked relative to its more famous Côte de Beaune neighbors, despite offering some of Burgundy's better value. The grapes are hand harvested and vinified with the same careful attention the domaine applies across its holdings, aged to bring out the wine's mineral character without masking it in new oak.

The wine shows a mineral nose with white flowers, pear, and peach. The palate is medium-bodied, with ripe citrus, stone fruit, and hints of nuts, carried by bright, well-balanced acidity through a finish of good concentration and length. It pairs beautifully with white asparagus and hollandaise, cured ham, or roast chicken.
