2020 Albert Boxler - Muscat (750ml)
Domaine Albert Boxler's roots go back to 1673, when a Swiss ancestor named Jean Boxler settled in Niedermorschwihr and brought Swiss grape varieties and farming techniques with him. It was his descendant Albert, however, who returned home after spending the war years in Montana and became the first to bottle and sell wine under the family's own name in 1946. Today the domaine is run by Jean Boxler, who continues the family's low-intervention, organic approach and is widely considered one of the finest producers working in Alsace.
This Muscat is sourced from the lieu-dit Boland, a south-southeast facing site within the domaine's limestone holdings, where vines around forty years old produce fruit with real concentration. Grapes are harvested entirely by hand, and after gentle pressing and a period of cold settling, the wine ferments spontaneously with native yeasts. It is then aged in foudre, the large neutral oak casks traditional to the region, and bottled without fining to preserve the wine's natural character.
True to style, this is a dry Muscat rather than a sweet one, with an aromatic nose of elderflower and white flowers layered over white fruit. The palate is ample and deep, carrying real weight alongside its floral perfume through to a long, textured finish. It's a natural match for asparagus dishes, fresh goat cheese, or a simple plate of charcuterie.
