2020 Boschis, Francesco - Dogliani DOCG Pianezzo
Harvested from the steep, terraced slopes of the Pianezzo cru in Dogliani, the 2020 Francesco Boschis Dogliani DOCG Pianezzo delivers the concentration and structured tannins characteristic of Southern Langhe Dolcetto. Cultivated in clay-calcareous soils that moderate vine water uptake and extend hang time, the fruit reaches optimal phytochemical maturity while preserving the vibrant acidity required for the DOCG mark.
This 750ml vintage opens with precise aromatics of black cherry, forest raspberry, and violet, layered with hints of white pepper, dried herbs, and wet stone. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins, a tight core of dark fruit, and a long, minerally finish. Produced using controlled fermentation and rested in neutral vessels, the wine emphasizes vineyard translucency and aging capacity without masking the appellation’s signature freshness.
Suggested food pairings: Align with dishes that balance richness against acidic cut. This Dolcello excels alongside braised rabbit, wild mushroom risotto, rosemary-roasted pork tenderloin, and aged pecorino. Tomato-braised beef ragù, grilled eggplant Parmesan, herb-forward chicken breasts, and traditional Piedmontese cured meats also complement its tannic structure and savory fruit profile. Pour at 16–18°C and decant for twenty to thirty minutes if drinking now to allow the youth-driven tannins to integrate.
