95 Points — James Suckling. 94 Points — Wine Advocate & Wine Spectator. One of Barolo's great values — from one of its most storied estates.

For 19 generations the Cordero di Montezemolo family has presided over the historic Monfalletto estate in La Morra — a property Antonio Galloni called "one of the most picturesque in all of Piedmont." The highest point of this EU-certified organic estate is a Lebanon Cedar tree so iconic that the Italian Air Force uses it as a navigational landmark.

100% Nebbiolo from vines 15 to 50 years old, planted on clayey and calcareous soils at 800–1,000 feet elevation with south/east and south/west exposures — the magnesium oxide and manganese in the soil facilitating the development of soft, dense tannins.

The Wine Advocate calls the 2020 elegant and concentrated, with dark fruit, black cherry, tar, resin, crushed stone, and a Mediterranean hint of rosemary and lavender over an elegant, mid-weight mouthfeel. James Suckling finds tea leaves, slate, wild berry fruit, violets, and tar — a wine of remarkable purity and length. Best from 2027 through 2047.

An aristocratic Barolo built for the cellar — yet extraordinary right now with two hours in a decanter

94 Points
"With vineyards under the celebrated cedar of Lebanon tree that looks over most of the appellation, this is an elegant wine with a little more richness and concentration in this vintage. The organic Cordero di Montezemolo 2020 Barolo Monfalletto shows dark fruit, black cherry, tar, resin and crushed stone. You also get a Mediterranean hint of rosemary or lavender bud over an elegant, mid-weight mouthfeel. Production is an ample 54,000 bottles. All the fruit for this wine is sourced in the general Annunziata area of La Morra."
