The Cordero di Montezemolo family has overseen this historic parcel in La Morra for nineteen generations, cultivating what has been called one of the most picturesque properties in all of Piedmont. The estate is EU certified organic, and its highest point is marked by an iconic Lebanon Cedar tree so prominent in the landscape that the Italian Air Force uses it as a navigational marker. That long continuity of stewardship runs through the Monfalletto bottling, one of the winery's signature wines.

Made entirely from Nebbiolo, Monfalletto draws on a careful blend of vineyards across the Monfalletto estate in La Morra's Annunziata area, with vines ranging from fifteen to fifty years old planted on southeast and southwest facing slopes between 250 and 300 meters above sea level. The clayey, calcareous soils, rich in magnesium oxide and manganese, help the tannins mature into a softer, denser texture. Because this wine is blended from multiple lots rather than a single vineyard, it spends more time aging in wood than the estate's single-vineyard Barolos.

The 2020 shows an intense garnet color, with floral and spicy aromas of tobacco, cherry, cocoa, and fresh raspberry woven together. The palate is rich and full-bodied, dense with concentrated fruit and firm tannins, yet retains real elegance through a long finish. This is a wine built for the table, pairing beautifully with braised beef, game, or dishes finished with white truffle.

94 Points
"With vineyards under the celebrated cedar of Lebanon tree that looks over most of the appellation, this is an elegant wine with a little more richness and concentration in this vintage. The organic Cordero di Montezemolo 2020 Barolo Monfalletto shows dark fruit, black cherry, tar, resin and crushed stone. You also get a Mediterranean hint of rosemary or lavender bud over an elegant, mid-weight mouthfeel. Production is an ample 54,000 bottles. All the fruit for this wine is sourced in the general Annunziata area of La Morra."
