2020 Crosby Roamann - Cabernet Sauvignon Satyrs Ridge Vineyard (750ml)

Crosby Roamann is a small, family-run winery founded by husband-and-wife team Sean and Juliana McBride. The couple fell in love with wine independently before finding each other, Sean at a wine and cheese shop in Ann Arbor and Juliana while studying abroad in Italy. In 2010 they left their day jobs, packed up their family, and headed west from Brooklyn to pursue winemaking full time. Today the winery operates out of Napa's Crusher District, sourcing fruit from small, family-owned vineyards farmed organically, biodynamically, or sustainably, with a philosophy centered on minimal intervention.

Satyrs Ridge is a selection from Connie Corbett's four-acre block of Cabernet Sauvignon in the hills of St. Helena, planted in 1970. Connie never had the heart to tear the vines out, and today they're extremely low-yielding, producing roughly 1.25 tons per acre. This steep, NDA-protected site has been the source of multiple 98- and 99-point bottlings elsewhere, its gnarled old vines yielding intensely flavorful, beautifully expressive fruit.

The fruit is harvested at the cusp of ripeness to preserve acidity and fruit character, fermented in open-top stainless steel for seventeen days, then aged roughly two years in a portion of new French oak before being bottled by hand, unfined and unfiltered. The 2020 vintage earned a 93-point score from Decanter, reflecting the site's consistent quality.

Expect a vibrant, deep ruby-purple wine driven by purple florals alongside dark cherry, plum, and chocolate notes, with hints of licorice and herbs. The palate is lush, expressive, and juicy, wrapped in silky tannins and finishing long and polished, a Cabernet that captures the essence of Napa's old vines.

This is a rare, tiny-production bottling well suited to grilled steak or other rich, savory dishes, with the structure to cellar gracefully for years.
