2020 Jordan Winery - Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County Alexander Valley (750ml)
Jordan Vineyard & Winery was founded in 1972 by Tom and Sally Jordan, who purchased land in Alexander Valley with the ambition of building an estate capable of rivaling the great chateaux of Bordeaux. Winemaker Rob Davis joined in 1976, mentored by the legendary André Tchelistcheff, and went on to become the longest tenured winemaker in Sonoma County history before retiring in 2019. Today Maggie Kruse continues that tradition, overseeing a winery still owned and run independently by the Jordan family.
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon blends 83 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot, and a small amount of Malbec, drawing on more than fifty vineyard blocks across the Jordan estate along with fruit from fourteen family growers. About 89 percent of the fruit came from Alexander Valley, with the remainder sourced from Mendocino County. Despite a challenging, wildfire affected harvest that ran from mid-September into early October, the wine was aged thirteen months in French oak barriques, 42 percent of them new.
The glass reveals aromas of ripe black cherry, currant, and boysenberry, with delicate cedar in the background. On the palate, blueberry, cranberry, and clove unfold over smooth, well integrated tannins. It pairs beautifully with beef bourguignon, duck confit, or herb-roasted pork loin.
