The 2020 Joseph Drouhin Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru Clos Sorbé is a 100% Pinot Noir from one of the Côte de Nuits' most underrated Premier Cru sites. Clos Sorbé sits on the southeastern edge of the village, just below the Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru, on white, marly soils rich in clay and limestone with an easterly aspect. The rocky, well drained ground naturally limits vine vigor and yield, pushing the plant's energy into the grapes rather than the canopy, while the eastern exposure gives good sunlight without the intensity of the steeper Grand Cru slopes above.

This wine shows a bright cherry color and a powerful, expressive nose layered with red fruit and notes of exotic wood. On the palate, it is deep and velvety, generous in character yet elegant, with soft, well integrated tannins carrying through to a long finish reminiscent of cherries macerated in brandy. Though Morey-Saint-Denis often sits in the shadow of neighboring Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos Sorbé has a reputation for punching above its classification, and tasted blind it is often mistaken for one of the surrounding Grand Crus.

It is an excellent match for roasted or braised red meats, and with additional bottle age, game and venison.
