Podere Le Cinciole is a husband-and-wife estate in Panzano in Chianti, farmed organically by Valeria and Luca Orsini. Focused almost entirely on Sangiovese, the property has earned a reputation among critics as one of the leading producers in all of Italy, known for wines with real tension and individuality rather than a polished, uniform house style. Aluigi, the estate's Gran Selezione bottling, sits alongside Petresco as one of its two flagship expressions.

Aluigi comes from Campo ai Peri, a two-hectare single vineyard facing the village of Lamole on a southeast-facing slope at roughly 440 meters. The site's higher clay content keeps the soil cooler, so it is typically the last parcel on the estate to be harvested each year, giving the grapes extra time to develop. Made entirely from Sangiovese, the wine spends two years aging in cask, followed by further time in a larger cask before bottling, a long, patient process built for structure.

The 2020 is rich and layered, with macerated fruit aromas touched by cinnamon and licorice, framed by redcurrant, fennel, and a savory, herbal edge. Silky tannins and lifted, soaring aromatics give it real finesse despite its density. It pairs nicely with a charcuterie board, grilled pork loin, or aged Tuscan cheese.

97 Points
"The 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Aluigi Campo ai Peri is 100% Sangiovese from a single vineyard in Panzano that faces Lamole. It spent two years in cask and a third year in a larger cask. Rich, sumptuous and beautifully layered, the 2020 is all..."
