2020 Louis Jadot - Echezeaux (750ml)

This bottling is produced under Domaine Gagey, the estate label carrying the name of the family that has guided Maison Louis Jadot for generations and continues to today, with Pierre-Henry Gagey serving as president. It reflects Jadot's own vineyard holdings rather than purchased fruit, part of a portfolio that has grown considerably since the house's founding in 1859 to include some of Burgundy's most coveted grand cru sites.

Echézeaux is one of the largest Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy, covering roughly 37 hectares on the southern edge of the Côte de Nuits, just upslope from Clos de Vougeot and Grands Échézeaux. Vines here were first planted under the stewardship of the Abbey of Cîteaux, and the site's varied soils, a mix of clay and thin, rocky ground, shift from one climat to the next across the vineyard's east-facing exposure.

The 2020 shows a closed, brooding character on release, with black fruit slowly giving way to notes of incense and a faint sea-salt edge as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with sappy red and dark fruit, sweet spice, and fine acidity, closing on a long, saline finish that reflects the site's structure.
