2020 Louis Jadot - Grands Echezeaux (750ml)

Maison Louis Jadot traces its roots to 1826, when the estate acquired the Clos des Ursules vineyard in Beaune, though Louis Henry Denis Jadot formally founded the house in 1859. Over successive generations the family grew into one of Burgundy's most respected négociants, building trade across northern Europe and helping cement the region's reputation abroad. Today the house farms and vinifies holdings across the Côte d'Or, including several grand cru sites in the Côte de Nuits.

This Grands Échézeaux comes from the appellation's small grand cru vineyard in Flagey-Échézeaux, planted entirely to Pinot Noir on limestone soil at the edge of Clos Vougeot, facing east-southeast. Grapes are hand-picked, and the wine is raised about eighteen months in barrels from the house's own cooperage, roughly a third new, a regime meant to add structure without masking the fruit.

The 2020 shows aromas of dark cherry with a touch of licorice and mineral lift, framed by a medium-bodied palate with real grip and finesse. Firm tannins and bright acidity suggest a wine built to age well, though it already drinks with polish. It pairs nicely with seared tuna, sweetbreads, or a rib roast of beef, and suits duck or other rich, savory fare.
