Few Barolo producers can claim roots as deep as Marcarini. Perched beneath a medieval watchtower in the heart of La Morra — one of Piedmont's most storied villages — this sixth-generation family estate has been crafting wines since the mid-1800s, and their allegiance to tradition is unmistakable in every bottle.

The del Comune di La Morra is their most terroir-expressive cuvée: a blend of parcels across La Morra's famed Tortonian soils — ancient blue marls and limestone that coax a more perfumed, silky expression from Nebbiolo than virtually anywhere else in Barolo. The result is a wine that is decidedly elegant rather than austere, with the kind of approachability that makes it as satisfying tonight as it is over the next decade.

The 2020 delivers a gorgeous nose of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose petal, sweet spice, and forest floor, with hints of cedar, mint, and worn leather adding complexity. On the palate it is medium-bodied and translucent, with a wonderfully crunchy texture, fine dusty tannins, and a long, lifted finish. All the hallmarks of a great La Morra Barolo — elegant, fragrant, and beautifully composed.

Drink now through 2034.

"The 2020 Barolo del Comune di La Morra is a very pretty wine to drink nowcand over the next handful of years. Ripe red cherry, sweet spice, flowers, mint and new leather are some of the notes than inform this translucent,mid-weight Barolo from Marcarini. All the elements are very nicelyintegrated. The 2020 is a charmer.
