Perticaia was founded in 2000 by Guido Guardigli, an entrepreneur drawn to Montefalco's winemaking traditions, who built the estate in the hills around the town at roughly 350 meters. In 2018 the winery passed to the Becca family, successful entrepreneurs from Luxembourg with deep roots in Umbria, who took over the small operation while preserving its history and style. Under the Becca family the estate has grown to about 34 hectares, continuing to focus on the region's classic wines, Montefalco Sagrantino in both dry and passito styles along with Montefalco Rosso and its riserva, while maintaining a long-standing commitment to Trebbiano Spoletino, an old mountain-origin white grape the winery helped bring back into wider use.

Made entirely from Sagrantino, the grapes are hand harvested into crates with careful bunch selection in the vineyard through September and into early October. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature with skin contact lasting up to fifteen days, followed by 30 to 36 months of aging in French oak barrels and further time resting in bottle before release.

The wine shows an intense ruby red color with garnet hues, and a complex nose of ripe fruit, warm spice, and elegant tertiary notes. Full-bodied on the palate, it carries velvety tannins and remarkable length, with the structure to age gracefully for decades. It pairs beautifully with red meats, game, or truffle-based dishes.
