2020 Robert Chevillon - Nuits St. Georges Roncieres (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Domaine Robert Chevillon is a fifth-generation family estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges, with roots reaching back to Symphorien Chevillon in the 1800s. After joining his father in 1968, Robert Chevillon grew the holdings from 3 hectares to about 13. His sons Denis and Bertrand took over when he retired in 2003. The brothers focus on Nuits-Saint-Georges, tending an unusually high share of old vines across a broad range of premiers crus.
The 2020 Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Roncières is Pinot Noir from a steep, early-ripening site south of the village, where poor, pale soils are covered with white stones and gravelly shale. The domaine farms old vines for naturally moderate yields and ferments entirely destemmed grapes slowly. Hail reduced the 2020 crop. The wine matured 15 to 18 months in oak, 30% of it new, and finished at 13.5% alcohol.
Deep ruby in the glass, this Burgundy offers dark berries, cherries, warm spices, woodsmoke and petals. The palate is medium to full-bodied, ample and concentrated, with an enveloping core of fruit, ripe powdery tannins and lively acidity. Youthfully austere, it carries a long, balanced finish and the structure to reward patient cellaring.
