2020 Skouras - Agiorgitiko Cabernet Sauvignon Peloponnese Megas Oenos MAGNUM (1.5L)
George Skouras is widely regarded as one of Greece's most influential modern winemakers, having trained in Burgundy before returning home to found his estate in the Peloponnese. His philosophy blends traditional Greek grape varieties with international techniques and grapes, aiming for wines that appeal to both classic European purists and fans of more contemporary, internationally styled reds. Megas Oenos, meaning "great wine," has become the flagship expression of that approach and one of the most recognized Greek reds in export markets.
This bottling blends eighty percent Agiorgitiko, sourced from vineyards in Nemea, with twenty percent Cabernet Sauvignon from vines up to thirty five years old in Corinthia, both planted on rocky soils at around seven hundred meters elevation and dry farmed to push root systems deep into the ground. Each variety is fermented and macerated separately in stainless steel before undergoing full malolactic fermentation in new French barriques, where the wine matures for eighteen months, followed by a further six months resting in bottle before release.
The wine shows a deep garnet color with violet highlights and a layered nose of red and black fruit, including raspberry, cherry, and blackberry, joined by baking spice, tobacco, and leather. The palate is silky yet robust, with gentle tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, spice-driven finish. It pairs beautifully with lamb, grilled meats, or aged cheeses.
