The Calling is a partnership between broadcaster Jim Nantz, vintner Peter Deutsch, and winemaker James MacPhail, formed with the goal of sourcing exceptional Sonoma County fruit and turning it into wines that overdeliver on value. The team focuses on some of Sonoma's most respected growing areas, working closely with growers to select fruit that reflects each specific site rather than blending broadly across the county.

This Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced entirely from Alexander Valley, a warm pocket of Sonoma just south of Calistoga where the Russian River moderates daytime heat and alluvial soils suit Cabernet particularly well. The grapes were hand sorted and gently crushed, then underwent natural yeast fermentation in barrel with an extended maceration period to soften the tannin structure. The finished wine rested in barrel for eighteen months before bottling.

The glass shows deep cherry red color with aromas of black fruit, toasted spice, blackcurrant, and dark chocolate. On the palate, ripe blackberry pie mingles with black pepper, vanilla, and cinnamon, backed by soft, silky tannins and a long finish. It pairs naturally with grilled venison, roasted lamb chops, or aged manchego.

91 Points
"Iron, cedar and wood-char aromas waft from the glass before potent black fruits, dark oak spices and espresso flavors fill the mouth. A full web of tannins holds together blackberries, blueberries and singed-herb notes."
