Maison Trimbach has cultivated vines in Alsace since 1626, and the family has long stood apart for its commitment to dry, precise winemaking in a region often associated with sweeter styles. That vision took hold in the nineteenth century under Jean Trimbach, who steered the estate toward a more austere, mineral-driven interpretation of the terroir, and it continues today under winemaker Pierre Trimbach, who recently guided the property to HVE-3 organic certification to protect its sub-Vosges vineyards for future generations.

Grapes for this Gewurztraminer come from well-exposed hillside sites in the foothills of the Vosges, where fossil soils of marl, dolomite, and limestone, rich in Triassic and Jurassic marine shells, give the wine its structural backbone. The 2020 vintage brought a hot, dry summer, though cool nights helped preserve natural acidity even as the grapes reached full ripeness. Following gentle pressing, the wine ferments slowly in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete, with no malolactic fermentation, then rests in the cellar for a minimum of two years before release to arrive fully settled and precise.

The nose offers restrained aromas of dried rose, ripe lychee, and grapefruit zest, with a subtle touch of ginger and clove. The palate is dry and medium-bodied, layering white fruit and mild spice over a mineral backbone that carries into a long, persistent finish. It's a natural match for Thai green curry, chicken tandoori, or a well-seasoned steak tartare.

91 Points
"The 2020 Gewurztraminer opens clear, bright and fresh on the nose that is still dominated by rather spicy phenolics at this early stage. Round, lush and elegant on the palate, this is a refined, tense and salty/mineral wine with a serious and stimulating ..."
