2020 Zingarelli - Chianti Classico DOCG Sant Alfonso (750ml)

Rocca delle Macìe traces back to 1973, when Italian film producer and director Italo Zingarelli set aside his cinema career to pursue a lifelong dream of making wine, acquiring the Le Macìe estate in the heart of Chianti Classico. The winery has since grown into one of the region's largest producers, spanning roughly 600 hectares across six separate properties in Tuscany. It is now run by Italo's son Sergio, his wife Daniela, and their children, who have carried the family's original vision of wines that balance structure and approachability.

Tenuta Sant'Alfonso is one of the estate's two historic single-vineyard crus, made entirely from Sangiovese grown exclusively on that property. After a careful selection of grapes and a fermentation designed to draw out color and polyphenols, the wine ages for at least a year in French oak barrels before resting further in bottle prior to release, a process meant to build complexity while keeping the fruit at the center.

The 2020 shows an intense ruby red color, with a broad, layered nose of black cherry, ripe blackberry, licorice, and coffee. The palate is soft and well balanced, with fresh acidity and firm tannins carrying through a long finish. It suits slow-roasted lamb shoulder, grilled game birds, or aged sheep's cheese.
