2021 Azelia - Barolo Bricco Fiasco (750ml)

From Luigi Scavino's Azelia estate in Castiglione Falletto, Bricco Fiasco is one of the historic crus of the property, replanted in the 1930s and 40s by Luigi's father Lorenzo and first bottled under this name in 1978. The vineyard takes its name from its shape, "fiasc" meaning flask in the local Piedmontese dialect. 2021 marked the first vintage the family experimented with fermentation in wood rather than their usual approach. Bright ruby in color with a spicy, floral bouquet, showing plum, raspberry, and black truffle on the nose, with well developed fruit, finely meshed tannins, and a juicy, saline finish. A genuinely standout showing in what's shaping up to be one of Piedmont's best recent vintages.
