One of Ricasoli's three single-vineyard Gran Selezione bottlings from the storied Castello di Brolio estate, whose roots trace back to the court of Charlemagne and the family's defense of Florence in the 13th century. Ceniprimo is the last of Ricasoli's vineyards to be picked each year, sourced from an ancient fluvial terrace of sand and silt at 300 meters, facing west to southwest. Fermented with yeasts indigenous to the Brolio estate and aged 22 months in 500-liter tonneaux, 30% new. The 2021 shows fresh red berries and crushed roses with a hint of white pepper, fine-grained, perfectly integrated tannins giving a sleek, racy character. Antonio Galloni called 2021 "the single greatest young vintage" he's tasted in over 25 years covering the region. Drinkable now but will reward a year or two in bottle to fully unwind.
