Cultivated on south-facing Sant’Agata marble slopes in Castiglione Falletto, the 2021 Brovia Barolo Villero delivers the structured elegance that defines premier Cru Nebbiolo from Piedmont. Grown within the central zone of the Langhe, the Villero terroir yields wines marked by pronounced mineral complexity and balanced tannins. After selective hand harvesting, the grapes undergo a brief cold soak followed by traditional fermentation and extended élevage in large Slavonian oak casks, preserving primary fruit character while allowing slow oxidative maturation. Wine Notes
  • Aroma: Bright red cherry, dried rose, crushed violet, black tea leaves, and wet stone with subtle spice notes.
  • Palate: Medium weight with crisp natural acidity, fine-grained tannins that coat the mid-palate gently, and flavors of pomegranate, cedar, and leather that extend into a persistent finish.
  • Vintage Profile: The 2021 growing season provided consistent daytime warmth with cool nights, concentrating aromatics and building fresh structural tension rather than heavy alcohol levels. Optimal drinking begins in 2025, with peak maturity arriving around 2032.
Food Pairings & Service Decant the bottle approximately fifty minutes prior to serving to soften the tannic edge and release volatile aromatics. The wine’s bright acidity and savory minerality cut effectively through dense fats and slow-braised proteins. It pairs distinctly with tajarin pasta seasoned with brown butter and roasted mushrooms, brasato al Barolo osso buco, wild boar ragù, aged Fontina Val d’Aosta, or lean cuts of grilled venison. Store unopened bottles horizontally in a stable environment between twelve and fourteen degrees Celsius to protect cork integrity and maintain slow development.
97 Points
"The Brovia 2021 Barolo Villero has that powdery or chalky element that I love so much from this site. It's like crushed chalkboard, and it frames other more fragrant aromas of sambuca, aniseed, blueberry and lilac. This wine is beautifully complex, and it keeps going in the glass, unveiling new layers all the time. The same thing can be said of the long mouthfeel. Villero is 1.2 hectares at 230 to 350 meters above sea level with marl soils (a mix of silt and clay). The wine matures in 40-hectoliter French and Slavonian oak casks, and 5,000 bottles were created."
