Oro is the special, limited edition tier of Sassoalloro, released only in certain years from a single parcel called Aia di Clemente, a well-exposed, east and southeast-facing slope of galestro soil. Made entirely from Sangiovese Grosso BBS11, the exclusive clone belonging to the Biondi Santi family (the same lineage behind Brunello di Montalcino), from the estate Jacopo Biondi Santi founded in the Maremma's Scansano district in the 1990s. Rich and lushly textured, with raspberry, cherry, and plum fruit laced with violet, baking spice, and tobacco, carried by chewy, dense tannins. A genuinely special-occasion bottling from a producer with real Brunello pedigree behind it.

93 Points
"A strong underpinning of iron and graphite lifts the cherry and black currant fruit in this lithe yet firmly structured red. Feels balanced, with assertive tannins that are yet to be resolved. Terrific length. Best from 2027 through 2043. 1,400 cases made, 800 cases imported."
