Dry Creek Vineyard was established in 1972 by founder David Stare, who became the first to open a new winery in Dry Creek Valley following Prohibition and helped spark the appellation's modern revival. Located along Lambert Bridge Road outside Healdsburg, the winery has spent more than five decades building a reputation across a broad portfolio that spans Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Sauvignon, along with a series of Meritage blends and single-vineyard selections.

Though best known historically for Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley has nearly as much acreage planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, benefiting from a distinctive microclimate of long, sun-drenched days balanced by cool, foggy evenings that allow the grapes to ripen slowly and fully. The 2021 vintage blends eighty percent Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, drawing on fruit grown throughout the valley to build layers of complexity beyond a single varietal expression.

The wine opens with aromas of plum, blackberry, and cranberry, followed by bay leaf, sage, and white pepper. On the palate, black currant and black cherry meet herbes de Provence, mocha, and fine leather, all held together by firm, structured tannins. It pairs well with grilled flank steak, wild mushroom pappardelle, or a rich dark chocolate torte.

92 Points
"This smooth, broad and spicy wine is difficult to resist for its easy drinkability and tempting, complex clove, tobacco and cedar notes on top of ample black cherries. Light to moderate tannins are well integrated in a medium to full body.
