Named in tribute to Luigi Einaudi himself — economist, statesman, and Italy's second President — "Ludo" is a wine of quiet authority and aristocratic grace, a fitting homage to the man who planted the first vines at this legendary Dogliani estate over a century ago. Crafted from Nebbiolo grown in the hallowed soils of the Langhe, this is Barolo at its most classically expressive — powerful yet poised, complex yet welcoming.

The 2021 vintage delivered a beautifully balanced growing season in Piedmont, with warm days, cool nights, and excellent diurnal range that preserved natural acidity and aromatic precision. In the glass, it is a translucent garnet with the characteristic Nebbiolo brick-tinged rim. The nose is hauntingly beautiful — dried roses, wild cherry, tar, iron, dried herbs, and a wisp of anise and leather that unfurl with time and air. On the palate, it is medium-full bodied with the grape's signature firm, grippy tannins, laser-focused acidity, and a finish of extraordinary length and mineral purity.

A wine with decades of potential ahead of it, yet already showing the elegance and complexity that have made Einaudi one of Barolo's most trusted and respected names.

93 Points
"The Poderi Luigi Einaudi 2021 Barolo Ludo is light and delicate in appearance with a dark ruby shine. The bouquet has a lot going on with sweet cherry, cola, blue flower and spicy rosemary essence that comes through with more clarity the longer this wine stays in the glass. It offers young tannins that could surely benefit from more years of bottle age. Ludo is a big production of 54,335 bottles"
