2021 Gurrieri - Nero d'Avola Vittoria DOC (750ml)

Giovanni and Angela Gurrieri farm organically near Chiaramonte Gulfi in south-eastern Sicily, in the Contrada Ponte and Biviere, where their Nero d'Avola vines were planted in 2008 at roughly 900 feet on calcareous clay soils. Hand-harvested in early October and fermented without added yeast, the wine macerates on the skins for about two weeks, rests on the lees for three more, then ages 15 months before bottling. Expect a substantial, meaty red with dark berry fruit, tea leaf, and a hint of licorice, finer and more restrained than many varietal Nero d'Avola bottlings while still carrying real weight and structure. A serious, terroir-driven expression of Sicily's signature red grape, well suited to hearty pasta dishes and red meat.
