2021 Hartford Court - Zinfandel Highwire (750ml)

Hartford Family Winery, founded in 1993 by Don and Jennifer Hartford, sources fruit from small, historic sites tended by farming families for generations. The Highwire Vineyard, over a century old, earns its name from an unusual trellising system: half the vines are head-trained and the other half run along a high wire, a method developed by previous owners Lloyd and Dee Chelli to improve sun exposure and promote even ripening. Hartford purchased the vineyard in 2018, though the Chellis still live on the property and tend the old vines. The two sections are harvested and vinified separately, with rigorous sorting to remove underripe berries and raisins, preserving the wine’s fruit character as fresh and precise.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: blackberry, candied raspberry, and forest herbs
• Palate: medium- to full-bodied with a bright, linear spine of acidity; fine tannins support notes of fresh peach and dusty soil
