2021 Les Dolomies - Malgre Tout Rouge MAGNUM (1.5L) [PRE ARRIVAL]

Céline Gormally created Les Dolomies in 2008 in Passenans, in the Jura, with help from Terre de Liens, an organization that supports farmers in securing land, and her husband, Steve, returned full time to the domaine in 2016. The name refers to the dolomitic rock of the village, a salty, magnesium-rich limestone. Today the couple farm around 5.5 hectares across ten plots in five villages, certified organic and guided by biodynamic practice.

Malgré Tout, or "despite everything," is a cuvée from the catastrophic 2021 vintage, when hail, frost, and mildew left yields painfully low. Instead of bottling separate reds, the couple blended all their remaining red grapes, Trousseau, Poulsard, Pinot Noir, and Gamay, into a single wine made only in magnum. Fermentations at the domaine are started with a pied de cuve, and the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

With Poulsard and Trousseau alongside Pinot Noir and Gamay, this is a translucent, light-bodied style of red, built around bright red fruit and floral lift rather than heft. At 12 percent alcohol, it is best served slightly cool, and it is said to age well beyond a decade.
