The 2021 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto captures the concentrated character of a single east-facing slope in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, delivering a cooler vintage expression marked by firm tannins and vibrant acidity.

Plantings rest on lean, tuff-rich pebbles with an easterly orientation that catches early morning light, while low vineyard yields intensify flavor in the 100% Sangiovese fruit. The 2021 growing season introduced a mild, wet winter onset followed by cooler temperatures, yielding a wine noted for greater structure and precision than warmer recent years. Like all Brunello, the must undergoes prolonged barrel maturation in oak before release.

Deep ruby in color, this single-vineyard bottling presents aromas of dark cherry, wild blackberry, and crushed rose petals, layered with cedar spice, cured tobacco leaf, and a subtle trace of damp forest floor. The palate balances intensity with poise, guided by firm yet silky tannins and bright acidity that sustain the wine through a long, stony finish shaped directly by the local bedrock.

This site-specific Brunello pairs best with slow-cooked protein and hard cheeses. Serve alongside braised beef short ribs, roasted venison or wild boar, or selections featuring aged pecorino Toscano. Open and decant for approximately thirty minutes to allow the cooler vintage structure to breathe and reach full expression.

97 Points
"Beautifully contoured and immediately expressive, the Mastrojanni 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto brings together dark fruit, spice, minerality, Sangiovese sweetness and firm, well-shaped tannins. The wine is aromatic and accessible in its youth yet structured enough to reward additional aging, reflecting the site’s tendency toward openness and floral lift rather than sheer power. The vineyard measures 1.59 hectares at roughly 350 meters in elevation with southeastern exposures, planted on complex lacustrine soils composed of lignitic clays, sandstone, sand and conglomerates."
