Natte Valleij is a historic Cape Dutch farm on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg mountain outside Stellenbosch, purchased by the Milner family in 1969 and revived as a working winery in 2005 by third-generation winemaker Alexander Milner. The farm's guiding philosophy favors minimal interference, letting old vines and their environment shape the character of each wine. The P.O.W. bottling takes its name from an Italian prisoner of war who was exiled to the Cape during the Second World War and once called the farm home, and the wine is made in his honor.

This full-bodied, Bordeaux-style blend combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Syrah sourced from vineyards around Simonsberg-Stellenbosch. Following traditional vinification, the wine spends an extended period in large oak barrels, allowing it to develop depth and structure gradually rather than through new wood influence. The approach reflects the estate's broader commitment to old-vine fruit and gentle, low-intervention winemaking.

The glass reveals layers of ripe plum, blackberry, and warm spice, with a bright, lifted quality to the fruit that keeps the wine from feeling heavy. Tannins arrive soft and well integrated, lending balance rather than grip. Pour it alongside grilled lamb, roasted duck, or a hearty beef stew for a satisfying match.
