2021 Purlieu - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 'Le Pich' (750ml)
Le Pich is the sister label of Purlieu Wines, both crafted by winemaker Julien Fayard. Fayard, originally from France, trained at prestigious estates including Château Lafite-Rothschild and Smith Haut Lafitte before moving to Napa Valley in 2006. After working at Quintessa and spending five years as Director of Winemaking at Atelier Melka, he launched Purlieu and later Le Pich to showcase Napa's diverse terroirs with wines balancing power and elegance. The name Le Pich comes from the Wappo Indian word for "golden eagle," reflecting the grace and strength the label aims to capture in each bottling.
The 2021 Le Pich Cabernet Sauvignon delivers brilliant fruit and graceful aromatics wrapped in a seamless, satiny package. The nose opens with black cherry, pencil lead, and stone, while the palate broadens into a lustrous core of ripe boysenberry and blackberry, given extra dimension by fresh minerality beneath. A bright surge of black plum and wild blueberry expands into complex notes of mocha, dried thyme, and a hint of leather.
This is a polished, food-friendly Cabernet, ideal alongside grilled steak or other hearty red meat dishes, with the structure to develop further over the next several years.
