2021 Talenti - Rosso di Montalcino (750ml)
Talenti's story began in the 1950s when Pierluigi Talenti left his native Romagna for the sunny hills of Montalcino, eventually purchasing the Pian del Conte estate he had fallen in love with. Having previously worked at the renowned Il Poggione estate, he became one of the region's most influential traditionalists, dedicating himself to Sangiovese clonal research and favoring elegance over power. Today his grandson Riccardo Talenti runs the property, continuing that same research with deep respect for tradition across the estate's forty hectares, roughly twenty of which are planted to vine across eleven distinct plots.
This Rosso is made entirely from Sangiovese grown on south-easterly and south-westerly facing slopes between 300 and 420 meters above sea level, on soils of sandy loam and galestro. After fermentation, the wine matures for a few months in a mix of smaller 500-liter barrels and larger 25-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks, followed by further time resting in bottle before release.
The wine shows an intense ruby red color with violet highlights, opening to fresh aromas of cherry, plum, and red currant, with hints of black pepper and a touch of smoke. On the palate it is soft and mineral, with good structure and well-balanced tannins. It pairs naturally with cured meats, pasta dishes, and delicate roasted meats.
