Originating from the acclaimed Ravera crus in Castiglione Falletto, the 2021 Vietti Barolo delivers one of Piedmont’s most precise expressions of Nebbiolo. Situated on mid-slope parcels composed of calcareous marl and ancient riverbed sandstone, these vines contribute a distinctive tension between ripe red fruit and savory earth that defines the best examples of the zone. Released from a cooler harvest window, the vintage prioritizes fragrance, lift, and supple tannins over heavy extraction, resulting in a wine built for both near-term enjoyment and structured aging.

The bouquet unfolds with clear notes of sour cherry, dried rose petal, and cedar, layered with subtle hints of licorice root and wet stone. On the palate, the wine tracks a vertical spine of fine-grained tannins through dark berry core and Mediterranean herbal undertones, closing with a lingering minerality that mirrors the vineyard’s limestone matrix. Extended maceration and approximately eighteen months in large neutral Slavonian oak casks allow the alcohol to integrate seamlessly while protecting varietal authenticity. A brief decant will release its full aromatic complexity.

Recommended Food Pairings
  • Braised pork shoulder with local fava beans
  • Piedmontese tajarin tossed with fresh black truffle
  • Maritozzi or castelmagno cheese board
  • Porcini and wild mushroom risotto
98+ Points
"You could argue that this is the wine with the fasting growing quality trajectory because this vineyard site is one of those rare places in the appellation that appears to improve despite (or more likely because of) a changing climate. Ravera enjoys an open panorama (at 400 to 440 meters in elevation) that extends to the snow-capped Alps and benefits from cooler air currents, coupled with an amazing quality of light that you notice with the naked eye. The 2021 Barolo Ravera saw its fruit harvested later than the other wines, on October 11th, and continued with a classic Vietti-style fermentation with 20-plus days of skin contact. Simply put, what Ravera offers is complexity (and strength) with hints of bergamot, citrus, herbs, mineral and salt over a tightly concentrated mouthfeel. The quality of the tannins and the freshness of this 2021 are impressive, and that citrusy note continues with tangerine skin and kumquat. Production is 8,700 bottles."
