2022 Albert Morot - Beaune Teurons (750ml)

Domaine Albert Morot has its roots in an 1820 négociant business in Beaune, with the family becoming vineyard owners themselves in 1890 after picking up land cheaply during the phylloxera crisis. The estate has remained under family control ever since, now overseen by Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry and winemaker Marie-Laure Morlot, who farms the domaine's holdings organically across several of Beaune's finest premier cru sites.

Les Teurons lies between Les Grèves and Clos de la Mousse, on a small hill whose Celtic name is thought to mean simply the mound. Morot farms about a hectare on the upper slopes, in thin soils thick with limestone pebbles over solid bedrock. Yields returned to a normal level in 2022 after a difficult 2021, with the parcel giving eighteen barrels, hand-harvested and vinified with the domaine's usual careful, low-intervention methods.

The 2022 shows dense mulberry fruit and a firm, saline minerality typical of this site's stony soils. The texture is dense and long, with admirable concentration for a Beaune premier cru. This is a wine that needs patience, likely closing down for its first few years before opening into a long, rewarding drinking window that should extend well past a decade.
