2022 Andis - Cabernet Sauvignon Sierra Foothills "Painted Fields" Curse of Knowledge
Painted Fields is the flagship label from Andis Wines, a Sierra Foothills producer built around the guidance of consulting winemakers Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky, working alongside estate viticulturist and winemaker Mark Fowler and Lorenzo Muslia. Every bottle is estate grown and produced, part of a broader mission to change perceptions of the region and highlight the quality that Sierra Foothills terroir can achieve when farmed with real intention. The winery pays tribute to the area's original grape growers, who first planted vines on these hillsides generations ago.
This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from high elevation, granitic vineyard sites in the Sierra Foothills, an area shaped by the gold rush era and known today for dramatic diurnal swings that help preserve acidity in the fruit. To build complexity and structure, the Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with Cabernet Franc and Merlot in a style that draws on Left Bank Bordeaux traditions, then aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels.
The wine opens with dried violet, black cherry, fresh herbs, and cocoa powder, moving into a round, velvety mid-palate framed by ripe tannins. Dark berries and black licorice carry through a long finish. It pairs well with braised short ribs, grilled steak, or aged cheddar.
