2021 Andis - Zinfandel Sierra Foothills Painted Fields Old Vine (750ml)
Andis Wines was founded in 2010 in Amador County, quickly establishing itself as a rising force in the Sierra Foothills wine region. Winemaker Mark Fowler works alongside consulting winemakers Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky, pairing traditional techniques with a modern sensibility to craft wines the estate hopes reflect balance, character, and true varietal expression. Their state of the art facility in Plymouth, California anchors a portfolio built around showcasing the diversity of Amador County fruit.
Painted Fields Old Vine Zinfandel draws on grapes sourced from heritage vineyards scattered across the Sierra Foothills AVA, some planted more than a century ago by growers who kept faith with Zinfandel through decades of shifting fashion. The blend leans heavily on Zinfandel with a small portion of Barbera folded in, and the wine spends time in French oak, only a fraction of it new, to preserve freshness rather than impose heavy oak character.
The result is a well layered, seamless red loaded with blackberry and raspberry fruit, framed by fine grained tannins and bright, lively acidity. Earthy undertones and a touch of black pepper add complexity to the finish. This bottle suits grilled sausages, barbecue ribs, or a peppery aged cheddar.
