2022 Anthill Farms - Pinot Noir Sonoma Peter's Vineyard

From Anthill Farms, a winery born of collaboration and hands-on spirit, with a philosophy of sourcing fruit from small, cool-climate plots across Sonoma and Mendocino and letting each site shine with minimal cellar intervention. The Peter's Vineyard Pinot Noir captures that ethos on an east-facing slope near Sebastopol, perched on Goldridge soils at the western edge of the Sonoma Coast.

The vines, comprising Pommard and Dijon clones planted in the early 1980s, benefit from morning fog and cooling Pacific winds that slow ripening and preserve acidity. The fruit is organically farmed, fermented with native yeasts, and vinified with roughly 30 percent whole clusters, then aged about fifteen months in French oak, with a quarter of it new, all handled gently to showcase the vineyard's character rather than winemaking technique.

The wine opens with dark cherry, baking spice, dried tea leaf, and a lifted floral quality, underpinned by a texture that balances power with elegance. Layers of red berry and earthy depth carry through a long, expressive finish.

  • Grape origin: Peters Vineyard, east-facing slope near Sebastopol, Goldridge soils, western Sonoma Coast
  • Vinification: organically farmed, native yeasts, ~30% whole clusters, 15 months in French oak (25% new)
  • Flavor profile notes: dark cherry, baking spice, dried tea leaf, lifted floral quality; red berries with earthy depth; long finish
  • Food pairings: roast duck, wild mushroom dishes, or a well-aged gouda
"Dark red color. The low yields of the vintage are apparent here. Darker flavors of cherry liqueur, rose petal, cinnamon, black tea and wood spice are usual from the start. After and hour of being open aromas and flavors begin to jump from the glass and coat the palate. This is deliciously impactful in the mouth with its texture and perfume that turn more and more elegant over time." "
