2022 Armand Rousseau - Clos de la Roche (750ml)

Domaine Armand Rousseau was built by Armand Rousseau, a Gevrey-Chambertin wine broker who began buying and replanting vineyard land in the early twentieth century, initially selling the grapes in bulk before starting to bottle under his own name in the 1930s. His son Charles took over in 1959, and today Charles's grandson Eric runs the domaine alongside his daughter Cyrielle, farming old vines at sensible yields across some of Gevrey's most storied grand cru sites.

Clos de la Roche sits at the northern edge of Morey-Saint-Denis, bordering Gevrey-Chambertin, on limestone soils that give the wine real mineral drive. Rousseau's holding is farmed organically and blended with fruit from a parcel of nearly a hectare in Les Fremières. The wine is aged entirely in used barrels, a choice that lets the site's character show clearly rather than layering on oak.

The 2022 is a bright, brilliant ruby with purple tints, opening on fruity, mineral, fresh aromas bursting with red and black berries and a light touch of oak. The palate is soft and velvety, with a rich, dense body held together by complex tannins and an elegant, savory finish. It carries the tensile strength and quiet discretion typical of Rousseau, a charming and remarkably harmonious wine.
