2023 Beaulieu Vineyard - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (750ml)
Beaulieu Vineyard, known to Napa lovers simply as BV, is one of the valley's most historic wineries, now led by chief winemaker Trevor Durling, only the fifth winemaker in the estate's storied history. This bottling sources most of its Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rutherford, Calistoga, and St. Helena appellations, with fruit coming from both BV's estate vineyards and other quality sites across Napa Valley, giving the wine a complex, terroir-driven flavor profile.
The 2023 blend is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon rounded out with Malbec, Petite Sirah, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The 2023 growing season saw ideal conditions, with heavy winter and spring rains replenishing groundwater after years of drought, followed by cooler weather that extended hang time and delivered a prolific, elegant harvest. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine was pressed and moved to French oak for malolactic fermentation and aging, then blended with complementary varieties to build mid-palate complexity.
The finished wine is youthful and bright, opening with a generous burst of blackberry and ripe plum layered with cocoa bean, molasses, and chocolate-covered cherry, plus a subtle nutty warmth from toasted hazelnut skin. The medium-bodied palate leans into fresh, juicy red fruit, with sweet Bing cherry and red raspberry leading to a long, raspberry sorbet-like finish, all supported by fine-grained, velvety tannins.
This is a vibrant, approachable Cabernet ideal for grilled steak, lamb, or a simple charcuterie board.
