2022 Bertheaut-Gerbet - Vosne Romanee Petits Monts (750ml)

Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet came together in 2013, when Amélie Berthaut-Gerbet combined her father's vines in Fixin with a large share of her mother's family holdings from the old Domaine Gerbet in Vosne-Romanée. That inheritance included a significant piece of Les Petits Monts, a premier cru the domaine now farms extensively. Amélie's approach has softened the estate's once tannic style into something riper and more refined.

Les Petits Monts sits directly above La Romanée-Conti and Richebourg, on a slope so steep it must be worked entirely by hand. The domaine's vines here were planted across several eras, from 1919 through 2008, on clay-silt-sand soils over limestone. Roughly half the 2022 was fermented with whole clusters, with cold pre-fermentation maceration, gentle pump-overs, and punch-downs, then aging for about fifteen months in barrel with meaningful new oak.

The 2022 shows one of the domaine's most beautiful perfumes, with dark small berries, crushed limestone, rose petal, and a briny, sea-cave minerality that gives real complexity and transparency. The palate is medium-bodied, with soft, supple tannins, a very gentle texture, and finely lifted acidity leading to a caressing red-fruit finish.
